Aggiornamento 9 Aprile: l'accordo è arrivato all'ultima ora! La paralisi è scongiurata, per ora.

Dear Colleague:
As you may know, there is a possibility that the US government will not reach agreement on federal funding when the current continuing resolution expires at midnight on April 8, 2011. In this event, Federal departments and agencies will not be permitted to incur further financial obligations performing activities funded by annual appropriations, except those related to the orderly suspension of operations or performance of excepted activities. The full impact to Fermi science operations is not yet known, but you can expect some disruption to normal operations.
Possible impacts include:
1) Disruption of FSSC web services, including software repository, documentation, observing timelines, MW coordination pages and data access.
Fermi-LAT data up to the time of the shutdown can be retrieved from the Fermi ASDC site: http://fermi.asdc.asi.it/
2) inability to react to TOO requests.
3) Fermi symposium webpages hosted at Goddard may be unavailable. Please note that you can register for the symposium at the following non-NASA site:
http://people.roma2.infn.it/~glast/fermi-sym2011/form_subscribe.php. We have extended the early registration deadline to April 11.
4) The GBM will reduce the amount of time tagged event data to a period of 5 mins after each GBM trigger.
5) GCN notices announcing GRB detections (including Fermi-GBM and Fermi-LAT) may be interrupted.
The Fermi mission operations center will be staffed. The flight operations team will operate Fermi in survey mode and continue to monitor the performance and safety of the observatory.

Julie McEnery
Swift
Members of the Swift community,
The U.S. Government may shut down non-essential services as soon as 04:00 UT on April 9. Operation of the Swift satellite is considered essential and will continue normally. However, routine data processing and access to Swift data at GSFC web sites may be interrupted for the duration of any Government shutdown. Data from observations before a shutdown will continue to be available at the ASI Science Data Center and the UK Swift Science Data Center. Swift will continue to execute GRB responses, Targets of Opportunity and Guest Investigator programs, but the rapid, routine analysis and distribution of the data may be interrupted.

RXTE
Dear Colleagues,
As you likely know, there is a possibility that the US government will shutdown soon due to the lack of a budget or continuing resolution bill being passed by the Congress. If this happens the shutdown would commence at 12:00 am April 9, and it is likely that significant disruptions to NASA services and operations would result. The full impact to RXTE science operations is not known at this time, but you should expect at a minimum to see some disruption in normal operations. Possible impacts include:
1) inability to react to TOO requests.
2) cessation of normal data processing.
3) disruption in data distribution and availability.
4) dramatically reduced observing schedule.
5) loss of normal email and RXTE website communication services.
We of course hope that a shutdown is averted, but these events are beyond our control. This message is simply a notice to the community to expect some level of disruption should a shutdown occur.
Regards,
Tod (for the RXTE team)
